Our story

In 2002, Il Gelato made history as Sri Lanka’s first authentic Italian gelateria, introducing the true art of gelato-making to the island. It all began with our father, an Italian visionary who poured his passion into crafting gelato the traditional way—fresh, natural, and indulgent. He brought a taste of Italy to Sri Lanka, creating a legacy built on quality, authenticity, and family tradition. Today, as his daughters, we proudly carry that legacy forward, ensuring Il Gelato remains a family-run business driven by love and craftsmanship. 

 

What makes our gelato special? It’s not just our traditional Italian techniques or state-of-the-art machinery—it’s our commitment to using real, high-quality ingredients. Our fruit flavors are naturally vegan, our creamy flavors are made with fresh, local dairy, and every scoop is crafted with passion. Unlike industrial ice cream, which is filled with preservatives and excess air, our gelato has less fat, more flavor, and a luxuriously smooth texture. 

 

With multiple locations across Sri Lanka—and now available straight to your freezer—we continue to share our family’s passion, one scoop at a time.
